Qiang Yang

Art Director of Xilin Art Center

 

A graduate of the world-renowned Beijing Dance Academy with a major in Dance Choreography, Qiang Yang was choreographer and director of dance troupe in the China National Song and Dance Assemble. ¡°Red Dou Dou¡±, ¡°Love on the Country Road¡±, ¡°Green Rice Field¡± and ¡°Chasing Spring Time¡± choreographed and directed by Mr. Yang, were awarded Best Dance Choreography from China Ministry of Culture and he was honored as ¡°Most Outstanding Member¡± by the China National Dance Artists Association in 1998.

 

Upon immigrating to the United States, Mr. Yang has dedicated himself to promote Chinese arts and culture, and was invited to teach and choreograph dance by various dance organizations in New York City and the Twin Cities, MN. Recently he joined Xilin Art Center as Art Director, where he currently teaches traditional folk, ballet and modern Chinese dance to more than 100 students in the Chicago area, ranging in age from four to adult. His recent compositions for adult dance include ¡°Soaring Dunhuang,¡± ¡°Butterfly,¡± ¡°Red Ribbon Parade¡± and ¡°Kung Fu Dance.¡± Mr. Yang¡¯s children¡¯s compositions include  ¡°Picking Lotus,¡± ¡°Youth for Joy,¡± ¡°Nun Chucks ¡± and ¡°Auspicious Prancing Lions.¡±

 

Mr. Yang¡¯s students have performed nationally and internationally at numerous Asian, European and multi-cultural events, and his children¡¯s dance troupe representing the United States will be in Beijing for Root Seeking international event and at the Tian Jin International Children¡¯s Art Festival in China.
