GRADE-5 SYLLABUS
Topics Covered:
1) Number and Operations:
Computation with whole numbers,
fractions, decimals, and percents; Problem solving with whole numbers,
fractions, decimals, and percents.
2) Geometry:
Perimeter, area, volume problems; angles
and their measurement; assorted topics in geometry.
3) Data analysis and probability:
Select and use appropriate statistical methods to analyze data, understand and apply basic concepts of probability.
4) Introduce negative numbers and operation on signed numbers

Goals:
To increase interest in
Mathematics, and build the mathematical foundation for the future.
To understand numbers, ways of
representing numbers, relationships among numbers, and number systems;
understand meanings of operations and how they relate to one another.
To understand relationships among
the angles, side lengths, perimeters, areas, and volumes of similar objects;
precisely describe, classify, and understand relationships among types of two-
and three- dimensional objects, using their defining properties.
To understand and apply basic
concepts of probability.
To prepare for the more advanced
mathematical concepts.
Requirements:
Grade 1~4math courses.
Evaluation:
Evaluation is based on class participation,
homework, quiz, midterm and final tests.
