Xilin Academy Day Care Center Discipline Policy

Xilin Academy Day Care Center has devised policies for behavioral limits and discipline to promote consistency throughout all classrooms. The goal of our program is to emphasize respect for self, respect for others, their work, and respect for materials. We have created an environment that allows each child to develop self-control and to assume responsibility for his/her own behavior, while ensuring the safety of all children under our supervision. Children need to learn discipline to be able to function in the real world. Society has rules that everyone has to live by, so the children’s world must have rules to prepare them for the future.

It is important that children realize that there may be consequences that follow and are directly related to their misbehaviors. Children become more independent and self-sufficient when they have to take responsibility for their own actions.

Xilin Academy Day Care operates under the following policies:

• Under no circumstances will corporal punishment be used as a means of limit setting
• No child shall be subject to cruel or severe punishment or verbal abuse, including

those that are sharing, frightening and humiliating

• No child shall be denied food, toileting or rest privileges as punishment
• No harsh or profane language or implied threats promising physical punishment are used

Discipline methods we use:

• Talking, reasoning and questioning as means to achieve our ends
• Redirection, praise and encouragement of acceptable behavior
• Removing a child to protect him or herself (this is not a timeout, rather a time to calm down and talk with a teacher)

As your partner for your child, it is important for good communication to exist between the family and Xilin Academy Day Care Center; if your child is experiencing a change in the home environment that may result in behavioral differences, it is important for you to notify the Center Director. If appropriate behavior continuous to be a problem, we develop a specific program for that child while working with the parents and all staff concerned. Xilin Academy Day Care Center, however reserve the right to ask you to make alternative arrangements for the care of your child.
